Some projects remind us why we love what we do, and the MEXAM Mural Project 2025 was one of them. Filming artists like José gave us the chance to not only document creativity, but to live it.

Setting the Stage: Lighting the Story

Our first filming session took place inside a theater, a space transformed into a cinematic stage where each artist could share their story. Every interview was carefully lit, each light intentionally placed to reflect the personality, energy, and emotion of the person in front of the camera. The idea wasn’t just to record what they said, but to feel it. To create an atmosphere where art and storytelling met in the same frame.

From the Studio to the Streets

Once the interviews were complete, we moved outdoors, to the walls, the colors, the movement. The second part of the process was entirely different: raw, dynamic, and full of life. Filming José as he painted his mural was about capturing energy in motion, brushstrokes that spoke louder than words.

The contrast between the calm, composed interviews and the spontaneous energy of the murals created a visual narrative that mirrored what the project itself stands for: the harmony between preparation and passion, structure and emotion.

The Connection Between Cultures

José’s mural, a stunning fusion of Mexican heritage and the Pacific Northwest spirit, became a symbol of cultural connection, a story told through color, form, and meaning. As filmmakers, being there to witness and frame those moments felt like more than a job; it was an experience of shared creativity and respect for art that speaks across languages and borders.

More Than Documentation

At ByFrame, we believe our role goes beyond filming, it’s about translating emotion into visuals. Projects like MEXAM are proof that when storytelling, lighting, and authenticity come together, something powerful happens: content becomes culture.
